Applications are invited to The KinShip Artist Placement 2022 Award by Cork City Council in collaboration with lead artists Lennon Taylor. Please see the KinShip Artist Placement Award Information 2022 document for the full Award information.


AWARD DETAILS
The KinShip Artist Placement 2022 Award aims to provide opportunities for artists to respond to climate-related concerns within the context of The KinShip Project. It supports activities that take place onsite at Tramore Valley Park and are participatory in nature.
Applicants can apply with a proposal for the following support:
  1. Access to a hot desk at Tramore Valley Park
  2. Curatorial support from Lennon Taylor
  3. Monetary award of up to €1500 which includes artists fee, materials and expenses


APPLICATION CRITERIA
A rolling schedule of deadlines will operate for this award. See key dates in #10 below.

Artist Placements will be awarded either through invitation or on an open call basis and only where applications meet the criteria set down by lead Artists Marilyn Lennon and Sean Taylor and Cork City Council;
  1. Applicants who are eligible to apply include professional artists and creatives, arts organisations or artist collectives;
  2. Where the applicant is collaborating with a community group, the lead applicant must be a professional arts practitioner;
  3. The proposal must respond to at least one of three themes for park/person encounter: the subterranean, the ground and the aerial;
  4. The applicant’s objectives must support the kin-based ethos in all interactions with the project environment;
  5. The artistic methodology must contribute to the creation of conditions that will facilitate public engagement in the short term and may lead to behavioural change in the long term;
  6. All participatory aspects must be without charge for the public;
  7. Successful applicants will be asked to provide evidence of Public Liability Insurance of 6.5 million with written indemnification of Cork City Council, Marilyn Lennon, Sean Taylor and The Glen Resource Centre prior to commencement of placement;
  8. Any artists proposing to work with children or vulnerable people will be asked to provide a Children and Vulnerable Person Safeguarding Statement;
  9. The successful applicant must provide images and text for publicity posts on social media (unless agreed otherwise) for the following;
  • Introduction
  • Initial Discoveries
  • Work-in-Progress
  • Engagement Experience/Process
  • Dissemination of Outcomes
  • Wrap Up/Reflection 
10. The timeline for the Artist Placements are outlined in the table below. The time in each case refers to 5pm on the date provided:

SUBMISSION CONTENT
ESSENTIAL ENCLOSURES
●       Artist/s C.V. and other key personnel as relevant;
●       Examples of previous work in support materials*
●       Signed commitment to participate in evaluation of The KinShip Project;
●       List of enclosed documentation and material included in the application;


*Support Materials
Submit a maximum of 5 good quality examples of your work that demonstrate your practice to date – depending on the media used in your practice. The following should be used only as a guide:
●       Up to and no more than 5 good quality still images, including detailed images or installation shots for installation work;
●       Up to and no more than 3 excerpts or 3 minutes for moving image work/ film, it is preferred that links are sent rather than files. Only links to YouTube will be accepted;
●       Good quality recordings of compositions or performances which illustrate the applicant’s artistic practice for track record to date; If you wish to provide a link please note that only links to SoundCloud will be accepted;
●       For composers who routinely produce scores as part of their practice, a maximum of three scores of compositions completed or previously published ;
●       Up to 3 examples (electronic format) of recent catalogues, monographs or relevant publications;
●       All still and moving images should be clearly labelled with a brief description of the work;


ASSESSMENT OF OPEN CALL APPLICATIONS
Applications are assessed by a panel consisting of Lennon Taylor, the Creative Cork Coordinator for Cork City Michelle Carew and a representative of The KinShip Partners.

CRITERIA FOR OPEN CALL APPLICATIONS
●       Be fully completed, signed and submitted before the stated deadline;
●       Requested accompanying support material must be submitted;
●       Activities must be carried out on a not-for-profit basis;
●       Activities must be artistic in nature;
●       Adhere to the branding and acknowledgement requirements of Cork City Council, Creative Ireland and The KinShip Project when funding is accepted;
●       Honour the principles of The KinShip Manifesto which can be found here https://www.corkcity.ie/en/kinship/about-the-project/
●       There is an expectation of active engagement with the KinShip Project, Tramore Valley Park and its community during the artist placements. Creative outcomes might include; interventions, performances, walks, talks, objects/artefacts, workshops, podcasts, posters or publications.

FREEDOM OF INFORMATION
Cork City Council proposes that the following information relating to this grant application competition will be made available on request:
●       Name of the successful applicants.
●       Reasons an applicant did not qualify for grant consideration.
Cork City Council undertakes to use its best endeavours to hold confidential any information provided by applicants subject to its obligations under law, including the Freedom of Information Act 2014. Applicants are requested to consider if any of the information supplied should not be disclosed because of its sensitivity. If this is the case, candidates should, when providing the information, identify the same and specify the reasons for its sensitivity. If such information is not identified as sensitive and Cork City Council on consideration does not deem it sensitive, then such information is liable to be released in response to a Freedom of Information request without further consultation with the applicants. Cork City Council will consult with any candidates about sensitive information before making a decision on any Freedom of Information Act request received.
